Home Based Workouts Are On The Up And Here Is Why...

People who just go the gym be like...
1. You cannot gain muscles, get fit or get ripped without going to the gym.
2. You will not work the same muscle groups you can in the gym if you work out at home.
3. You have to take loads of protein powder | shakes before you work out and after.
4. You cannot get ripped abs from home based workouts.
This is just to name a few.
There are many misconceptions about working out.
Now let me ask you a question..
When all the gyms were closed during covid19 how did everyone workout? Well for starters there was a huge rise in online tutoring including online Personal Trainers and one of the classes I took was PE with Joe π(Joe Wicks)π me and my family would be in the living room joining in with the jumping jacks and the circuit training and it lifted everyone's mood.
We were more happy, we felt more refreshed and knacked of course and if we know anything Chilled Cat's its that exercise can indeed boost ones mental health and make you feel amazing!
So yeah before covid 19 there was many personal trainers who were struggling to find work, because personal training was trending and everyone wanted to be a personal trainer, I even almost got sold on the idea.
A few of my friends had done their personal training and they couldn't find a means to get paid because there was just too much competition then BOOM! a terrible but amazing thing happened! The pandemic we all know as Coronavirus and that was the gateway for many personal trainers to get their foot in the door and some even managed to start their own businesses just by posting videos online.
But the moral of that story was that they was able to adapt and even some of us learned to adapt and adaptation is a well needed skill we all must learn.
So let's start with the pros of home based workouts.
1. More time flexible
You don't have a certain window to workout before the session expires and you can work out at any time after breakfast, after dinner, at 9:00 pm or even when everyone's in bed.
2. No commute.
You do not have to walk for 30 minutes, jump in the car or even wait for a buss.
As the gym is in your house so the only commute you will have to do is go from one room into another.
No getting stuck in traffic because that's time wasted.
3. No start up | membership fee.
This is great because say if you was to get a gym membership let's just say Β£30.00 not counting any other fees like personal training etc.
Let's say you have an off day like your too tired, or you have a sickness bug or injury or something because there will always be curve balls round the corner.
You take the day off or two or even a week that's money down the drain and at this stage with how expensive it is for us to live I believe we all want to save money.
Let me ask you a question..
Imagine you pull a Β£10.00 out of your pocket would you then chuck it into the fire? because that basically what you are doing.
"Goodbye Money You Are Not Needed Here"
On the other hand with a home based workout plan you have no fees, well maybe a small investment into your water bottle or your meal and that's mandatory.
This brings us to our next point
You are not required to use dumbbells or weights to do a home workout as a lot of the moves you can do are body weight exercises.
There is a huge amount of videos on YouTube teaching you bodyweight exercises and thus you can do wherever you want like if your on your way to work or going shopping you can do a light jog, if your waiting for your friend and there is a curb then do some calf raises or even if your on your way home and you are going through a park you could do a little circuit training there.
May be some pullups, vaults, press-ups and more.
There is more you can do like calisthenics, dancing, shadow boxing and more, you are not limited and you can indeed get creative.
Now if your dependent on the gym you may know of these things.
1. You have to wait for someone to finish on one machine before you can use it.
Now this is bloody annoying for someone who has a set routine when it comes to working out and having to wait five minutes or more to use the machine could have an effect on your workout, it could even make you feel like you cannot be bothered anymore.
That is not all, as gyms are usually packed with people so having a nice straightforward workout may prove to be a challenge.
2. You may feel out of place | feel as if your not good enough to be there.
Now what do I mean? well say your a skinny or overweight person and you go to the gym and your surrounded by beefy looking muscular people you may feel like you don't belong in the gym, aside the fact that everyone who goes to the gym has the same insecurities.
3. You may get laughed at.
Ok this is a rare thing to happen but it has been known to happen on some occasions.
I used to be friends with this guy when I was 20 and he had saved up a lot of money to invest in his health and wellbeing and he decided he was going to go to the gym and transform himself.
He has got himself brand new gym wear, water bottles, whey protein, a fit bit and loads more, I thought he had gone a bit over the top but I was admiring his willpower, I had never seen anyone with as much determination and drive as this guy had.
So I kept checking in with him and he was at the gym for one month and he was telling me all of these cool things he was doing then one day I logged onto Facebook and I had notifications on the Facebook free and wanted page and my friend was selling all of his gym stuff for a fraction of what he brought it for.
So I rang him and asked dude! why are you selling all of this stuff? and his reply was I'm not good enough to go to the gym I just get laughed at.
This guy he was not massively fat, he was just a little overweight.
I continue to ask him who was laughing at you? he said there was a group of 5 men and 1 woman that every time he would walk past them they would be like mate I think you will do better at KFC, calling him fat arse and laughing at him every time he had a sweat on.
I told him James! most people that go to the gym they are all on a mission, you cannot let yourself get distracted by these people, you have to focus!
He told me he is done and working out was not for him.
He had put his name down for a year subscription and he had to cancel it.
I wish I was able to influence him to carry on and not to give up.
But again that is rare to happen but it can happen.
4. High Fees | Temptation
So a gym membership is not cheap by any means, but a gym is indeed a business that will try to upsell you on various things like merch, VIP packages, personal training and as well the vending machines that have protein bars or that sweat Gatorade or Monster and after an intense workout a nice can of Monster is almost screaming your name.
Bottled water too! for a drink that is pretty much free its being sold for Β£1.50 | Β£2.00

5. Personal Training
Ok to get in shape and join a gym you don't need a personal trainer but you are required to have one.
If you are serious about how you want to look and feel and you have a desired physique you wish to achieve then getting a personal trainer is a wise investment, as they will have helped people with your body type and they will know where your going wrong, your pain points and they could even help with your diet.
Think of it like being a Web Developer
You don't need to take a coding bootcamp as you can succeed on you own but the bootcamps will act as a personal trainer, helping you get from a - b with ease.
Now I am not bashing gyms or anyone who goes to the gym.
I am just letting you know that they are many ways of doing workouts that do not involve going to the gym or even using weights.
The idea is to not be dependent on one form of training | working out as when we get another pandemic then what happens when the gyms are closed or what if you don't have the funds to go to the gym?
You should try to be adaptive and work out at home and when your out and about as we all should know how to train effectively and our bodies are made to withstand intense training and adaptive environmental training in our environment.
The man | woman who just goes to thy gym and pumps big loads may look and seem strong but is their training functional, will it help them in any situation?
Some of you may go to the gym to socialise and indeed is a good idea to make friends with people who have the same interests as you.
However you must remember that ultimately your going to the gym to get stronger and train so you must remember to stay focused and the person who you are talking too is also there for the same reason.
So that's all we have for you today so please listen to these words and try to figure out what kind of workout you are going to do.
